St. Andrew the Apostle Parish traces its roots to 2019, as part of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh's On Mission for the Church Alive! Renewal and Revitalization. In 2014 the Diocese initiated On Mission for The Church Alive! with the goal of each parish offering a deeper relationship with Jesus and His Church. For five years the Faithful in the Diocese, including the parishioners here in the Mid-Monongahela Valley, have been considering, praying and planning about how to best serve God and His people. For the Communities of Eastern Washington County, the formation of St. Andrew the Apostle in January 2020 is the result of these developments.
St. Andrew the Apostle Parish is comprised of the Catholic Faithful from the Mid-Mon Valley. The geographical areas of the Parish include the towns of Monongahela, Donora, and Charleroi, and neighboring communities. The Valley parishioners started in October of 2018 to Worship together and share resources. We are now progressing together as a parish grounded in Faith, Hope, and Love.
With their own historical backgrounds, each town has undergone its own movements to bring God's people together. Today, St. Andrew the Apostle Parish is comprised of parishioners from the former St. Damien of Molokai Parish, which was the combination of the former Transfiguration and St. Anthony parishes in Monongahela. From Donora we have the parishioners from the former Our Lady of the Valley Parish, which was the melding of the churches of St. Charles, St. Dominic, Holy Name of the Blessed Virgin Mary, St. Joseph, and St. Philip Neri parishes. From Charleroi we have members of the former Mary, Mother of the Church Parish, which was the union of St. Jerome, Ss. Cyril and Methodius, and Mother of Sorrows Parishes.
Father Kevin Dominik is the current Pastor of St. Andrew Parish, while Father Tom Kadalick., is the Parochial Vicar. Deacon Al Poroda is the Parish's Permanent Deacon and Parish Pastoral Associate. Father Jerry Mikonis is a Retired priest of the Diocese, living in residence.
Come and join us as we pray, petition, sing, and dedicate ourselves to the mission of Jesus, as we gather around the Eucharistic Table of our Beloved Savior!
